?? The third verification carried out gives the project success in the permanence of the forest and community social development – watch the video!
Biofílica’s first REDD+ Project, Jari Amapá, turns 10 in 2021 and has just passed the third verification of carbon credits by the Verra. The only private REDD+ project in the state of Amapá to date, where a set of actions to combat deforestation are developed and proposed, in addition to social, climate and biodiversity activities that result in the mechanism’s objective: a Reduction of Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation plus (+) conserving forest carbon stocks, sustainable forest management and increasing forest carbon stocks.
This third verification is special because it is the first verification of the Climate, Community and Biodiversity (CCB) standard, with the Gold Label for Biodiversity. This means that the initially validated plan, with the purpose of generating net positive impacts to the climate, local communities and biodiversity is being implemented and is already showing the first results – verification audits take place throughout the project’s life cycle and aims to verify the veracity of the results presented.
The sales of forest carbon credits from the Jari Amapá REDD+ Project have their remuneration reverted to the promotion of sustainable family agriculture for 33 families from 6 communities in the region. Thanks to revenue growth in the coming years, the project will intensify the actions already carried out and will be expanded to three additional communities in 2021. Since the beginning of the project, pasture areas and unproductive agricultural crops have given way to more efficient production systems and local forest regeneration through the provision of technical support, preparation of a plan for the use of areas and access to inputs and equipment for farmers.
