Activities Performed

2nd Quarter

Communication procedures between the parties

Biofílica delivered to Manoa the first version of the structure of a communication procedure between stakeholders, internal and external, which will be improved to be incorporated into the reality of the Farm.

4th Quarter

Updating the project proponents

The Triângulo Group, together with Biofílica, defined as a result of the real estate payment and transfer of ownership, that the company Manoa Sustentável Extração e Serviços Florestais Ltda will become the proponent of the Project together with Biofílica in place of Triângulo Pisos e Painéis Ltda. This change does not interfere in any way with the Project's management and governance process, since Manoa has already been taking on more responsibilities in recent years, since, besides carrying out low-impact forest management in the project area, it has also been responsible for providing support in infrastructure for the project's activities, as well as being responsible for land security and patrimonial vigilance and, finally, as the owner of the land.

Foreseen activities

Project Communication: Biofílica’s marketing team, with the support of the operational team, will start the development of a communication strategy for the REDD+ project, which should be aligned with the Triângulo Group, to have an unified communication of the project.

Project management: Biofílica intends to replicate in the Manoa project the monitoring and management model initially designed in 2020, with the respective necessary tools, making the necessary adaptation to the reality of the Manoa REDD+ project.

The proponents plan to finalize the construction of the communication procedure between internal and external stakeholders to apply the improvements to the project. Additionally, Biofilica plans to work together with Manoa for the improvement of the procedures, based on the REDD+ project principles, with the FSC.

Climate

Activities Performed

1st Quarter

VCS verification audit

The 1st quarter began with planning very focused on the VCS verification audit that was to take place in the second half of 2021. A follow-up protocol was prepared for the gathering and organization of evidence, a schedule and shared folder with the representatives of Manoa. In addition, the proposal signed by Biofílica to contract the audit service was delivered, and Earthood was selected.

2nd Quarter

Gathering information for MR

The Biofílica and Manoa teams held weekly meetings where they gathered information and evidence of the activities developed in the Project in the period from 2017 to 2020, the development of the Monitoring Report including all this information occurred in parallel to this process.

3rd Quarter

Leakage belt

In order to understand what was happening in the project's leakage belt, the Biofílica team started to survey secondary data of the region, to better understand the context of the deforestation advance, and additionally, a field trip was made where, together with Manoa's operational team, it was possible to understand "in loco" about the local situation. The result of these surveys was the construction of a timeline with all the milestones of activities that culminated in the current scenario, which was incorporated in the monitoring report, and was evaluated by the auditors supporting the analysis of the field visit in the region.

4th Quarter

VCS verification audit

As the project's socio-environmental activities were severely hampered by the COVID-19 pandemic, it was decided to proceed with the VCS seal verification only. Additionally, given the situation of great pressure and change of scenario, in relation to the baseline, in the areas of the leakage belt, it was decided as a strategy to de-characterize the deforestation agents in order not to harm the project. Thus, the audit took place in the second half of November, bringing very positive results.

Foreseen activities

The project intends to design strategies for the mitigation and prevention of deforestation within the area, given the pressure that has been occurring around the farm. It is intended to reconcile the information from PRODES data with other robust and high-quality databases, with greater frequency, in order to support surveillance actions in the field.

Community & Biodiversity

Activities Performed

1st Quarter

Biodiversity Monitoring

At the beginning of the year, a request for a report with the previous results of the first monitoring campaign finalized in the first quarter, with all the complementary documentation demonstrating the accomplishment of the activity, was formalized to those responsible at UNIR.

2nd Quarter

Biodiversity monitoring

Due to the delay in the end of the rainy season, the continuation of the collection of information, through the realization of the 2nd monitoring campaign was postponed, being possible to be carried out only in the second quarter, collecting information from the dry period (Amazonian winter).

3rd and 4th Quarter

Biodiversity Monitoring

Professor Malu, UNIR's main correspondent in the fauna monitoring project at Manoa farm, made a proposal for a new project to carry out the monitoring of the salt licks area for one year through the photographic trapping method, the idea was discussed and approved between Biofílica and Manoa and the final proposal was sent only at the end of the 4th quarter. As the process conciliated with the audit period, the proponents will evaluate the activity in detail, for further approval in 2022.

Foreseen activities

Evaluation, for subsequent approval, of the written project proposal by UNIR for the monitoring of the salt licks areas. This accounts for the methodology that will be carried out, reconciling it with the monitoring already carried out by the team from the same laboratory at the Farm [Fazenda].
