“STIMULATING THE DEMAND FOR REDD+ EMISSION REDUCTIONS IN BRAZIL: THE NEED FOR A STRATEGIC INTERVENTION FOR PRE 2020” - 2014

In 2014, Biofílica developed a study with Interim Forest Finance (IFF) and Amazon Institute for Environmental Research (IPAM) in order to analyse the implementation of Brazilian Emissions Reduction Market (BERM) and the demand for emissions reductions from REDD+.

Regarding the international agreements context for reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, the study presented an overview of Brazilian greenhouse emissions and the potential funding for REDD+ projects in Brazil in 2020, according to the National Strategy for REDD+ (ENREDD).

The study proposed strategies and economic tools to finance action to reduce deforestation in Brazil, focusing on REDD+ projects and connecting this action with emission reductions in other sectors, as domestic industry, in order to visualize the implementation feasibility and prospects of Brazilian Emissions Reduction Market (BERM).

In this scenario, the study pinpointed the potentials of REDD+ projects, reducing emissions, working on prevention, monitoring and avoiding deforestation, promoting conservation and sustainable use of amazon biome.
